oh yeah, wasn't objecting to that

2019-05-06 10:21:24 UTC

just today I was broaching the topic that being drugged at parties is a grossly exaggerated risk... thats going to set that arguement back another ten years

2019-05-06 10:21:45 UTC

I was roofied once at a bar.

2019-05-06 10:22:01 UTC

whoa, really?

2019-05-06 10:22:04 UTC

Yeah

2019-05-06 10:22:08 UTC

The drink wasn't meant for me, though

2019-05-06 10:22:23 UTC

A female friend of mine was going to order a drink and I gave her money so she could fetch me one too.

2019-05-06 10:22:39 UTC

She then didn't want the drink anymore, but ordered mine anyway

2019-05-06 10:22:51 UTC

And someone roofied it without her noticing

2019-05-06 10:22:55 UTC

It feels like crap

2019-05-06 10:23:16 UTC

thanks, that was super important for me to hear

2019-05-06 10:23:49 UTC

I think it is important to be aware of the possibilities of these risks.

2019-05-06 10:23:59 UTC

The problem is when you act like *everything* will post a risk.

2019-05-06 10:24:04 UTC

I may have been overly dismissive

2019-05-06 10:24:05 UTC

pose, not post

2019-05-06 10:24:28 UTC

When you act like everything is a risk, you get the pedophile/kidnapper scare that locked away children in their homes at the end of the 90s.

2019-05-06 10:24:44 UTC

yeah

2019-05-06 10:25:41 UTC

This is why I can't understand why the "try not to dress scantly" argument triggers them so much

2019-05-06 10:26:00 UTC

It's literally the same as me telling you not to take 200£ with you in cash if you go out at night

2019-05-06 10:27:30 UTC

We're not saying "It's your fault you got raped because you were dressed in a super revealing way."

2019-05-06 10:28:00 UTC

I can't seem the find the article... but there was one a little while ago about college campuses with 'teach men not to rape' programs having an increase in rapes, where as campuses with 'rape prevention and awareness' programs had strong declines

2019-05-06 10:28:16 UTC

you know the rape whistle and yelling fire ones, those are apparently very affectively

2019-05-06 10:28:34 UTC

Why am I not surprised

2019-05-06 10:28:56 UTC

Did they seriously think a guy would go "Oh yes, I was going to rape her, but now that I know rape is bad I won't anymore!"?

2019-05-06 10:29:46 UTC

well, it sounds stupid when you say it like that, but observation dictates that apparently they do

2019-05-06 11:14:10 UTC

@Locke Thanks for the warning on the #yesallmen stuff. It was probably just booze and drugs, to be honest, but if it was a roofie the chances are it was literally one person at that party spiking drinks.

2019-05-06 11:15:58 UTC

Like I said, innocent until proven guilty, but knowing the douche they are talking about I wouldn't put it past him.

However, I just know it will go from "Paul is a douche to" "SEE, ALL MEN WOULD DO THIS IF THEY HAD HIS MONEY AND FAME"

2019-05-06 11:21:11 UTC

The 'teach men not to rape' posters and signs are a jab at people saying that it isn't wise to do such and such a thing if you want to avoid being assaulted (walking alone at night, in a dark alley, bad neighbourhood etc). They take things like that as blaming the victim and attempt to reflect that blame back, only they blame all men rather than the rapist themselves. They fail to understand that it isn't blaming the victim but simply sound advice for *anyone* no matter what their sex is

2019-05-06 11:22:11 UTC

Wanna hear a funny thing?

2019-05-06 11:22:27 UTC

People tell me I am crazy and overreacting because I go to Tinder dates armed.

2019-05-06 11:22:57 UTC

Yet I don't put it past me for the guy I am going on a date with to be a homophobe ready to rape me and kill me in an abandoned corner.

2019-05-06 11:26:23 UTC

If I was in America I would absolutely open carry for exactly the same reasons, though it is a very slim chance even there. In Russia, however, it's basically a full on occupational hazard.

2019-05-06 11:26:59 UTC

I'm not in America, so I don't use a gun. I use knives. But if I were in America you can bet your ass I'd have one.

2019-05-06 11:27:01 UTC

Isn't homosexuality illegal in Russia

2019-05-06 11:27:28 UTC

Yes.

2019-05-06 11:27:45 UTC

I don't think it's illegal per se, but engaging in homosexual acts and supporting it publicly is

2019-05-06 11:27:53 UTC

They can't make it illegal because of some UN stuff

2019-05-06 11:34:31 UTC

It's as good as illegal there. If the police caught you with another man, you'd probably be beaten and maybe framed for something.

2019-05-06 11:36:41 UTC

Weird thing is Russia largely seems to view gayness as some kind of western conspiracy to distroy Russia - at least according to some Google translated arguments I had with a bunch of Russians.

2019-05-06 11:36:53 UTC

Not a fun place to be gay.

2019-05-06 11:39:43 UTC

What country are you from by the way @Locke ? I don't remember if you said.
