Interesting I guess I had it backwards

2019-10-13 22:02:45 UTC

yeah that's a running theme in FSU politics

2019-10-13 22:02:59 UTC

one group of oligarchs gets expelled and another one gets in

2019-10-13 22:03:15 UTC

Russia is just like a poorer America

2019-10-13 22:03:23 UTC

massive multiethnic republic

2019-10-13 22:03:36 UTC

everything owned by oligarchs

2019-10-13 22:03:46 UTC

native people getting fucked, no birthrates

2019-10-13 22:03:48 UTC

committing suicide

2019-10-13 22:04:26 UTC

I tried to explain this to Americans who ask why Poland/Hungary don't leave the E.U.

2019-10-13 22:04:36 UTC

Eastern Euro states can't go it alone, they need allies

2019-10-13 22:04:52 UTC

and for the past 200 years the main players in Eastern Europe are Germany and Russia

2019-10-13 22:05:01 UTC

everyone picks Germany if they have a choice

2019-10-13 22:05:44 UTC

the Germans are obnoxious but they didn't send troops in to rape every woman between the age of 16 and 60 like the Russians did

2019-10-13 22:06:32 UTC

no Germans just get the Moslems to do it for them

2019-10-13 22:06:34 UTC

lol

2019-10-13 22:06:41 UTC

lmao

2019-10-13 22:07:15 UTC

but yeah Eastern Euro states in a really bad position

2019-10-13 22:07:19 UTC

both options pure shit

2019-10-13 22:07:55 UTC

dissident right Russophilia is embarrassing

2019-10-13 22:08:12 UTC

I have lived in Russian majority places for a long time

2019-10-13 22:08:18 UTC

Do they have minerals or natural resources to exploit? Cheaper labor to compete with? Any way out of this?

2019-10-13 22:08:47 UTC

@Right_Honourable Poland is emerging as a power because of their population and economy

2019-10-13 22:09:03 UTC

they're one of the few countries in the world that didn't get whacked during the recession ten years ago

2019-10-13 22:09:27 UTC

of course they also have poz seeping in from the edges

2019-10-13 22:09:42 UTC

no amount of economic activity is going to make any eastern european country not need western allies

2019-10-13 22:09:48 UTC

if they don't want to be part of the russian federation

2019-10-13 22:10:06 UTC

and almost anything is better for these countries than being a part of the russian federation

2019-10-13 22:10:18 UTC

especially ukraine and poland, putin would march as many dagestanis and chechens and azeri in there

2019-10-13 22:10:36 UTC

that was already happening under yanukovich, and was a source of huge resentment

2019-10-13 22:11:04 UTC

yeah that's what I try to explain to people; the E.U. isn't good but the E.U. also hasn't significantly harmed its Eastern Euro members in the way that Putin would

2019-10-13 22:11:25 UTC

mostly they just sit around and whine about Orban and Kacynski but they don't do shit

2019-10-13 22:11:50 UTC

it's a matter of geography

2019-10-13 22:12:02 UTC

all these countries are small, flat, and have small populations

2019-10-13 22:12:14 UTC

can't go it alone in that kind of scenario

2019-10-13 22:15:36 UTC

I spent 6 months in Afghanistan about 10 years ago for work. The “goal” there was to exploit the minerals to try to get self sustainable. Of course this area has so much tribal conflict or will never amount to anything. The west uses them for military bases that’s about it. I assume Georgia is thought of as an afterthought by Russia

2019-10-13 22:15:54 UTC

absolutely not, Georgia is on Russia's border

2019-10-13 22:16:18 UTC

every power has a vested interest in keeping control over their neighboring countries

2019-10-13 22:16:46 UTC

Bad choice of words, as someone they can push over any time they want, is what I meant

2019-10-13 22:16:47 UTC

it'd be like if Mexico suddenly decided to align with Russia and China

2019-10-13 22:16:54 UTC

that is true

2019-10-13 22:17:08 UTC

Russia did flatten Georgia in the war ten years ago
