Well if everything goes to shit we can alwahs fall back on blackpowder for a revolution
Lines battles will rule again
Why what?
Hey y'all, gun newbie here. We just bought a 12 gauge shotgun, but the ammo we bought doesn't fit. Any ideas?
Well what did you buy?
It's a Hopkins & Allen Arms Company, Norwich Conn 12 gauge (kind of old probably)
I meant the ammo
It's 12 GA 3 in
Measured it, the shell is a 32nd of an inch larger than the bore.
You either want to use a 2 3/4 inch low pressure shell or a 2.5 inch low pressure shell.
High pressure will destroy the shotgun
It's a shotgun
I know
Guessing it's a single barrel as those were the most common
Yeah, single barrel 1 shot
See if they'll allow you to return the ammo and get 2.5 or 2 3/4 inch shells.
Make sure they're low pressure.
I don't buy ammo from Cabelas so idk if they allow you to return such things
But yeah. If you get high pressure say good bye to your hand and the shotgun
Is there a range for low pressure?
The one we have is 1,550 fps
It’s probly not a 3 in chamber
Read on the barrel and it will say 2 3/4 or 3
I just said that.
Around the time when these shotguns were being made 3 inch wasn't common.
Yeah the inch size isn't on here I think. It says diadem smokeless steel and choke bored on the top
I'd buy a box of 2 3/4 and see if it fits.
It should as it was the most common shell before 3 inch became common.
Alright sounds good. Thanks for the help 🙂
I'd also buy from a smaller shop as the guys in smaller shops tend to be able to help you better.
Yeah I have a feeling they wouldn't have sold us ammo that didn't fit. It caught my husband's eye at Cabela's though, so that's where we got it.
Your shotgun is probably from around 1911 so keep that in mind whenever you're buying ammo or cleaning products.
Cool, good to know. I know it's old because the maker's engraving is starting to 'fade'
Well you can also just look up the gun
The company closed a long time ago.
