2021-01-16 21:05:42 UTC

2021-01-16 21:05:54 UTC

Lines battles will rule again

2021-01-16 21:29:21 UTC

Why what?

2021-01-16 21:29:25 UTC

Hey y'all, gun newbie here. We just bought a 12 gauge shotgun, but the ammo we bought doesn't fit. Any ideas?

2021-01-16 21:29:59 UTC

Well what did you buy?

2021-01-16 21:30:36 UTC

It's a Hopkins & Allen Arms Company, Norwich Conn 12 gauge (kind of old probably)

2021-01-16 21:30:45 UTC

I meant the ammo

2021-01-16 21:31:50 UTC

It's 12 GA 3 in

2021-01-16 21:32:57 UTC

Measured it, the shell is a 32nd of an inch larger than the bore.

2021-01-16 21:33:46 UTC

You either want to use a 2 3/4 inch low pressure shell or a 2.5 inch low pressure shell.

2021-01-16 21:34:05 UTC

High pressure will destroy the shotgun

2021-01-16 21:34:16 UTC

It's a shotgun

2021-01-16 21:34:21 UTC

I know

2021-01-16 21:34:39 UTC

Guessing it's a single barrel as those were the most common

2021-01-16 21:34:54 UTC

Yeah, single barrel 1 shot

2021-01-16 21:35:23 UTC

See if they'll allow you to return the ammo and get 2.5 or 2 3/4 inch shells.

2021-01-16 21:35:49 UTC

Make sure they're low pressure.

2021-01-16 21:36:00 UTC

Yeah we can check, though I'm not sure it'll work. It was from cabela's

2021-01-16 21:36:22 UTC

I don't buy ammo from Cabelas so idk if they allow you to return such things

2021-01-16 21:36:45 UTC

But yeah. If you get high pressure say good bye to your hand and the shotgun

2021-01-16 21:37:15 UTC

Is there a range for low pressure?

2021-01-16 21:37:25 UTC

The one we have is 1,550 fps

2021-01-16 21:37:27 UTC

It’s probly not a 3 in chamber

2021-01-16 21:37:42 UTC

Read on the barrel and it will say 2 3/4 or 3

2021-01-16 21:37:45 UTC

I just said that.

2021-01-16 21:38:05 UTC

Around the time when these shotguns were being made 3 inch wasn't common.

2021-01-16 21:40:03 UTC

Yeah the inch size isn't on here I think. It says diadem smokeless steel and choke bored on the top

2021-01-16 21:40:50 UTC

I'd buy a box of 2 3/4 and see if it fits.

2021-01-16 21:41:12 UTC

It should as it was the most common shell before 3 inch became common.

2021-01-16 21:41:36 UTC

Alright sounds good. Thanks for the help 🙂

2021-01-16 21:43:31 UTC

I'd also buy from a smaller shop as the guys in smaller shops tend to be able to help you better.

2021-01-16 21:45:36 UTC

Yeah I have a feeling they wouldn't have sold us ammo that didn't fit. It caught my husband's eye at Cabela's though, so that's where we got it.

2021-01-16 21:47:40 UTC

Your shotgun is probably from around 1911 so keep that in mind whenever you're buying ammo or cleaning products.

2021-01-16 21:50:50 UTC

Cool, good to know. I know it's old because the maker's engraving is starting to 'fade'

2021-01-16 21:57:20 UTC

Well you can also just look up the gun

2021-01-16 21:57:29 UTC

The company closed a long time ago.
