Slavery largely would have died out naturally in the 1890s which can’t be said the same for the horrible factory conditions that existed into the 20s.

Honestly, I find slavery to be worse than terrible factory conditions. There’s something to be said about the awfulness of “owning” another person as if they are a resource to be expended. The North had mistreatment too, but at least people got paid and could enter this bad situation willingly vs being born into it. As for the South culture being demonized, I don’t really hear anyone demonizing a cultural aspect of the Civil War era south other than the slavery but if you can give me an example I’d be happy to address them separately
