People will always minimize the effort needed. We are naturally lazy, to conserve energy. If you have the luxury to degenerate, most people will do exactly that. It take conscious effort to fight it, which is effort you dont really need to expend.

The thing that's particularly cool about humans is that we can override our instincts through training and practice and education. Other animals really can't.

Plus, we don't really have irrevocable hard wired instincts. Not even feeding babies is instinctual.

The difference is the level self-reflection, self-awareness. Animals can be trained, they just can't self-train. We have this ability for whatever reason, which exponentially increases our freedoms and adaptability. It's really OP in my opinion.

The "hard instincts" we have are limited to stuff that's controlled by our spinal cord for example. Reflexes, etc. But a lot of them can be consciously supressed. We have system admin rights , which is pretty neat.

We can even overcome many of our reflexes. Just look at thots and the gag reflex.
