The problem with Socialism is that such government involvement also naturally leads to heavy government regulation over one's life. It inherently over time leads to less individualism, and the government heavily regulating public discourse, regulating lifestyle to mitigate health expenses, regulating career choices as the earning potential of each one becomes disconnected from the natural value society assigns to them.
This can be balanced well, but society tends to ask for more & will generally lead to economic stagnation at best, or societal collapse at worst
All of this for (in the grand scheme of things) short-term safety
Communism is (or should be) more obviously flawed - as every single tenet can only be enforced through a totalitarian form of government.
If there is no money, how do I (a hypothetical chair maker) obtain oranges from a farmer if he does not need chairs?
You could create a voucher system for value...but then, oops, congratulations...you just invented money.
You could simply bring goods to market...but oops, everybody wanted to be a youtuber, everybody wanted to be a chair maker....there is now an excess number of these, and nobody is growing the food
Given that in a communist government you can't allow prices to naturally adjust in a market to prevent this...you now have to create a government bureau to regulate who and what number of people go into which careers
You have a great idea that you think society will deem worth it?
In a fully communist society, there is no allocation of private capital...meaning you can't gather others who deem your idea worthy and build a company on investment
The only way is for you have to gain the approval of those in power - not to mention that there is much less incentive for you to do so, as there is no reward for your disproportionate contribution of value to society
....Obviously I'm cutting everything short here, but it inevitably leads to totalitarianism....anarcho-communism is inherently unstable, and evolves into totalitarianism that serves mostly just to benefit those in power.
Socialism can technically work - but I have yet to see it implemented well....especially not in any form that is compatible with the amount of individualism & freedom that most Americans cherish
