There are competing media companies in Canada tho

2021-01-05 19:38:26 UTC

Global News being one

2021-01-05 19:38:41 UTC

That funds TFI global btw

2021-01-05 19:38:52 UTC

CTV news being another

2021-01-05 19:39:06 UTC

I'm not saying they're arent, you have a situation where multi-billion dollar company is the arm of state media.

2021-01-05 19:39:06 UTC

TVA being another

2021-01-05 19:39:23 UTC

That’s with all/most media now

2021-01-05 19:39:37 UTC

If we going to discard Epoch times on a "poisonous" association, this seems like it would apply as well.

2021-01-05 19:39:58 UTC

Here is the CBC coverage of Tiannamen Square:
https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2461675714

2021-01-05 19:40:02 UTC

Tell me what you think.

2021-01-05 19:40:13 UTC

Epoch Times is founded and funded by the Falun Gong, that is literally a cult

2021-01-05 19:40:44 UTC

The CBC is funded by the government but has no involvement in its daily operations

2021-01-05 19:40:49 UTC

There’s a difference

2021-01-05 19:41:06 UTC

Epoch times is made to talk shit about the Chinese

2021-01-05 19:41:20 UTC

The CBC is made to spread actual news around

2021-01-05 19:41:23 UTC

how does it not have involvement? The media is directly involved with the government. Since it is government funded.

2021-01-05 19:41:36 UTC

I understand that

2021-01-05 19:41:42 UTC

But the government doesn’t have say in matters

2021-01-05 19:41:44 UTC

Its the definition of a conflict of interest.

2021-01-05 19:42:00 UTC

How does the government not have a say, but have control over funding?

2021-01-05 19:43:04 UTC

Like, would you trust North Korean news network if they said "the government has no decision power over what we publish"?

2021-01-05 19:44:10 UTC

No, because NK is a authoritarian dictatorship

2021-01-05 19:44:18 UTC

Canada is still a free democracy

2021-01-05 19:46:32 UTC

So maybe this is a cultural misunderstanding. People in America have issues with PBS because it is government programming. You don't trust it because if it came time to report things about your government, you're considered distrustful. The only thing you can base your trust of them on is the articles/product they publish.

2021-01-05 19:47:03 UTC

So my point with the double standard when it comes to Epoch Times vs CBC.

2021-01-05 19:47:26 UTC

No no

2021-01-05 19:47:40 UTC

I still don’t trust articles about the gov by the CBC

2021-01-05 19:47:50 UTC

But when it comes to general news I trust them

2021-01-05 19:48:00 UTC

oh yes... state approved news... desensitization... hopeless cause
and china still persists 32 years later....

2021-01-05 19:48:28 UTC

But Epoch Times’ goal is to talk shit about the CCP

2021-01-05 19:48:34 UTC

So I don’t trust their judgement

2021-01-05 19:48:47 UTC

Just like I wouldn’t trust CBC with issues about the gov here

2021-01-05 19:49:01 UTC

many others do as well... just not lamestream

2021-01-05 19:49:02 UTC

But in general news, why would you not judge the work and not the association? That is the double standard.

2021-01-05 19:49:33 UTC

I don’t mind the Epoch times when it comes to Non-Chinese reporting (if they have any)

2021-01-05 19:49:55 UTC

But it’s when they clearly try to portray there reality

2021-01-05 19:50:04 UTC

That’s where I stop giving them that ground

2021-01-05 19:50:19 UTC

And I don’t give CBC any respect when it comes to government issues here anyway

2021-01-05 19:50:40 UTC

you have no idea what the Epoch Times writes about... you just are triggered by your bias

2021-01-05 19:51:08 UTC

I’m saying I don’t trust their Chinese reporting because they clearly have bias against them

2021-01-05 19:51:19 UTC

I don’t think that’s too outlandish
