etc

2021-01-02 03:40:10 UTC

Ha, I don't really have much to worry about

2021-01-02 03:40:23 UTC

All I would ever watch is my precious records

Hey, better, its a reliable OS, not a frustrating artsy one

2021-01-02 21:03:58 UTC

Who here would love to have a 17inch, foldable laptop with 2k/4k touchscreen, an AMD processor up to 16 core/32 threads and a powerful graphics card with up to 4 memory slots and several m.2 drive slots as well? Because hot jam I really want a system like that!!! I just wish I could custom build something like that and not be beholden to the PC makers. It's kind of annoying tbh.

2021-01-02 21:06:08 UTC

several???

2021-01-02 21:06:23 UTC

Like for a lot of storage or RAID?

2021-01-02 21:07:41 UTC

A computer like that would be incredibly loud, thick, and have terrible battery life with a processor like that, a powerful GPU to power a 4k screen, the 4k screen itself, and four ram which for some reason actually draws more power then you would think.

2021-01-02 21:08:32 UTC

@RRBrony1 and think: Do you REALLY need all that in a laptop? Why not just make a SFF build and carry it arround

2021-01-02 21:12:01 UTC

Well, you see I live out of hotels because of my job. Its pretty hard to lug around a monitor, keyboard, mouse and PC. Not to mention a lot of the hotels I get jammed into tend to have little to no space for a desk or a table.

2021-01-02 21:12:27 UTC

Do you need 128GB of ram? if not 64Gb in 2 slots is no problem

2021-01-02 21:12:45 UTC

there are 32GB sodimms

2021-01-02 21:13:10 UTC

I mean I don't need 128gb of ram.

2021-01-02 21:13:18 UTC

At that point, just rent some cloud compute

2021-01-02 21:13:36 UTC

Then you dont need 4 ram slots

2021-01-02 21:13:55 UTC

If your hotels have internet, just remote into a workstation

2021-01-02 21:13:57 UTC

Lol. Cloud compute is great. Wifi at hotels are basically nicer versions of dialup.

2021-01-02 21:14:27 UTC

My company doesn't drop me in amazing hotels.

2021-01-02 21:14:56 UTC

The closest you are gonna get to what you want is likely only a few laptops

2021-01-02 21:15:03 UTC

XMG APEX 15 is one that comes to mind

2021-01-02 21:15:11 UTC

3950x + 2070 something

2021-01-02 21:15:15 UTC

When I say several I mean like 2 m.2 slots.

2021-01-02 21:15:16 UTC

Depending on what you're needing this much computation power for, if it's not overly latency sensitive or color accurate, streaming the video feed from the cloud used for compute maybe an option.

2021-01-02 21:15:22 UTC

2 m.2 and a 2.5

2021-01-02 21:16:15 UTC

Well I don't personally avail myself of remote workstations, from what I understand for many workflows it's a very good option.

2021-01-02 21:16:26 UTC

only 2.6KG? Thats less than my main laptop!
(granted my laptop is almost 20 years old but still)

2021-01-02 21:17:02 UTC

I can hardly beleive that managed to fit a 3950x in there

2021-01-02 21:17:02 UTC

I do video and picture work on it and I'm bad about being a power user. Lol. But I only like to have 17inch screens. I'm weird I guess. Lol.

2021-01-02 21:17:31 UTC

Even for a modern computer, less than 6 lb is fairly light for a business speced laptop.

2021-01-02 21:17:52 UTC

It's not bad that's for sure.

2021-01-02 21:18:44 UTC

My laptop without my custom extra battery is 10lbs+

2021-01-02 21:18:48 UTC

Honesty, I would take a 17 inch, touch screen, and mobile apu with the ability to fold 360.

2021-01-02 21:18:55 UTC

Its a pentium 4 though, so it kinda has to be

2021-01-02 21:19:00 UTC

there arent 16 core apus

2021-01-02 21:19:21 UTC

using a laptop for FOLDING!?!

2021-01-02 21:19:29 UTC

just put a PC dedicated for that!

2021-01-02 21:19:47 UTC

I don't think AMD makes APUs with more than six cores. It's kind of because if you need more than that you're often going for discrete competition on the GPU also.

2021-01-02 21:19:54 UTC

there are 8 core ones now
