Oh that was earlier this year
That's unfortunate...
ooh
why am i getting a notification ping even though nothings been posted yet?
> ah yes Boyscouts, before they decided that just simply changing the girl scouts was to hard for them
@ThiccSpicyGenderRevealParty The change wasn't nearly as dramatic as most people think. I'll address your first claim that they should've just "changed the Girl Scouts". The Girl Scouts are a completely different organization with a bunch of people at the top getting rich as heck. There aren't people getting rich off of Boy Scouts. There are people who are employees of BSA, but they're for the most part just enough to make a decent living. In Girl Scouts, the majority of money from their fundraisers went to higher ups, not the troop, in Boy Scouts, the majority of the money goes straight back into the program (This is why I try not to buy Girl Scout Cookies, I'm supporting some rich dude more than the troop itself). Now that we've established that they're two different organizations, I would like to explain the reasoning for the decision, and what exactly it entailed. One thing that most people can agree on is that Girl Scouts has deteriorated. They don't do rigorous camp outs like they used to anymore. And they're only getting worse. Boy Scouts on the other hand has many extremely rigorous backpacking trips. Many girls wanted the opportunity to do this things too, and they didn't want to wait until they were old enough to do Venturing Scouts, and Venturing is EXTREMELY rigorous. So they made the decision to create seperate Girl Troops. I will admit, when I first heard about it I was upset, but us in the Boy Troops have almost zero interaction with the girl troops. It didn't mess up the young men mentality in the troops, not at all. Even at national events and Order of the Arrow, there have been girls for years and years due to Venturing. If they tried to put girls in the same troop, I would be mad. If they allowed us to share campsites, I would be mad. But so far, all that has happened is they provided a better alternative to girls interested in Scouting.
I will admit that the BSA has done some very stupid woke things lately, and the advertising they did for it was one of them. But the creation of Girl troops I personally see as a good thing. As an extremely active Scout myself, I have barely found any difference other than I can now talk to a girl about Philmont. And that is a fun conversation to have
Fair enough
but why did they let the Girl Scouts become a (and i say this bcs i have no better term) private organization rather then just do what they did for the Boy Scouts?
that part of why this whole problem started to begin with right?
Yep
The answer to your question is human greed
People wanted to get rich off of it, it was a genius strategy, but eventually people realized something was wrong
My mom and the troop leaders of my sister's old girlscout troop went to court at some point over money
so yeah
As long as they keep the girl troops separate, I'm fairly supportive of the decision. I prefer the stuff that the BSA teaches youth much more than what the Girl Scouts does.
I did not like the way they advertised it though. They clearly tried to make it seem "woke" when it wasn't even a "woke" decision.
yeah
that was
well
you know
In fact, it was the way they advertised as "woke" that caused all of the backlash. If they had merely said that they were providing another program as an alternative to girl scouts, everything would've been fine. But they had to go ahead and say girls were joining boy scouts (which they had already been doing for years with venturing) and make it seem like they were with the boys.
Once they let girls into Boy Scouts it was like breh
Now my church has removed affiliation from them.
Better for everyone
i believe the circle goes like this:
Actually the churches removed support when they made a rule saying that gay boys are still allowed to tent with other boys
Organization: exists
sjws: its not diverse enough
@Porcupioneer yeah ik
Organization: is ruined by "diversification" and people complain
Sjws: "Well why dont you just go make your own organization?"
you see the problem here?
I don't agree with a lot of stuff the BSA says, but I'm sticking with it
I saw no need to pay out of pocket to join a troop I didn't know after I became an Eagle.
Makes sense
I'm mostly in it for OA tbh
fair enough
i got OA representative once
I got my vigil a few weeks ago
nice
thx
