It’s one of the things I enjoy about it, but sometimes they go too far

2020-08-05 04:25:00 UTC

Yeah. I miss the G1 stuff. It was serious, but still fun.

2020-08-05 04:25:18 UTC

I love G1

2020-08-05 04:25:53 UTC

It knew when to be serious, but it also got goofy quite often

2020-08-05 04:26:34 UTC

Yep! I checked out of the fandom right around Beast Wars, didn't come back until the Bayverse movies.

2020-08-05 04:27:04 UTC

Except for die-hard fanboys, I hear I didn't miss much. LOL

2020-08-05 04:27:41 UTC

I never got into Beast Wars, I know so many people love it but I’m just not into the idea of robots turning into animals

2020-08-05 04:27:59 UTC

They’re supposed to be trucks and cars and jets and trains

2020-08-05 04:28:10 UTC

That’s WAY cooler to me

2020-08-05 04:28:20 UTC

Yes!

2020-08-05 04:28:53 UTC

A friend of mine called Beast Wars "Transformers: Ran out of ideas".

2020-08-05 04:29:38 UTC

LOL

2020-08-05 04:29:56 UTC

They just needed to make more toys

2020-08-05 04:31:04 UTC

Hasbro probably just thought “Hey guys, what if we had them turn into ANIMALS this time?”

2020-08-05 04:31:58 UTC

Well, the originals all came from Japan, and were part of another toy line. I'm guessing Hasbro tried to make something completely new.

2020-08-05 04:33:15 UTC

The first wave of Transformers toys in 1984 was mostly just toys from two different lines of toys in Japan, one being called Diaclone

2020-08-05 04:33:23 UTC

Not sure about the other one

2020-08-05 04:33:38 UTC

But all they really did was re-paint them and change their names

2020-08-05 04:33:39 UTC

Yep. I don't remember either.

2020-08-05 04:34:11 UTC

That’s why we got some weird alt-modes like Megatron becoming a gun

2020-08-05 04:34:37 UTC

Spell check changed “gun” to “fun” 😆

2020-08-05 04:34:54 UTC

LOL Well, depends on how you use it, I guess...

2020-08-05 04:35:27 UTC

I ain’t gonna disagree with spell check, gun = fun

2020-08-05 04:35:37 UTC

But I definitely think the idea for Transformers toys was a genius one

2020-08-05 04:35:50 UTC

Those guys knew what they were doing back in 1984

2020-08-05 04:36:12 UTC

Oh, definitely. My dad was thrilled by them. He was a design engineer back then, loved to fiddle with mine.

2020-08-05 04:36:37 UTC

Hasbro's sort of killing off customers lately, though.

2020-08-05 04:37:12 UTC

I see these “one-step” change Transformers at the store all the time and think “Man, kids have gotten so dumb and lazy”

2020-08-05 04:37:40 UTC

You just push a button and it instantly transforms for you, they don’t even look cool

2020-08-05 04:37:42 UTC

Hey, though, remember the ones from G1, though? Topspin and Twin Twist?

2020-08-05 04:37:55 UTC

Pull them back, they flipped open?

2020-08-05 04:38:28 UTC

Oh yes, those guys were one step

2020-08-05 04:39:06 UTC

They didn't really take off, though.

2020-08-05 04:39:31 UTC

Yeah, the gimmick gets kind of boring after awhile

2020-08-05 04:39:42 UTC

I have a G1 Bumblebee on my desk

2020-08-05 04:40:02 UTC

And an original Snake Eyes from GI Joe

2020-08-05 04:40:03 UTC

I have G1 Optimus upstairs.

2020-08-05 04:40:09 UTC

*nods*

2020-08-05 04:40:14 UTC

I collected both.

2020-08-05 04:40:19 UTC

Damn, lucky

2020-08-05 04:40:39 UTC

I collected later, though, when I was a teen.
