So basically what happens

is that a rogue planet sparks a war

because humans and the TRAPPIST aliens want it

Why?

it has lots of plutonium on it

which powers FTL

both species use plutonium to power up their FTL drives

Okay, so not for colonies. Means the war can get dirty.

yeah

at the start of it the TRAPPIST aliens launch an attack on earth

it gets barely repelled

there are like 80 human ships left

and no more can be launched until the debris around earth is cleared up because most ships are made in earth

the ships get together and make a surprise strike
