Just last year started hunting solo, but today they were late getting out so they both just went to the closed box stand, had an awesome dad n son hunt. Gonna be a helluva memory for them both

You dont have to "gut" a deer to butcher it completely. You can make the first incision on the back and go in from the top, leaving the gut sack intact and in the carcass. That way you don't relase anything foul in to your butchering area.

You shouldn’t puncture any of the internal organs when gutting if doing it properly. You just have to be careful with your knife.

I am saying that you never need to remove the guts in the forest nor should you. You can leave them intact in the carcass the whole time. Start to finish. Then there is no way to puncture them. It is a more advanced way of skinning. Not that common, but much better. I have never removed the stomach of a deer. especially here it is dangerous due to predators.

Sounds similar to how I was taught to prep fish

2020-11-20 18:06:16 UTC

if you only want a couple of parts of the deer I guess you don’t Need to even get into the guts.

2020-11-20 18:07:12 UTC

No you get the enitre deer butchered. All the cuts. I mean I dont eat the lower legs. My dog does.

2020-11-20 18:08:13 UTC

Yeah that is a good way. Fillet every thing, cut around the guts.

here, I didn't take the time to do more than click through it, but this is similar to how we were taught in FFA.

2020-11-20 18:09:38 UTC

I mean for fish I just take the meat above the rib cage

2020-11-20 18:10:16 UTC

Same here. Especially Gulf fish.

2020-11-20 18:10:29 UTC

Just like that. That is how I do it.

2020-11-20 18:33:45 UTC

@MalekTaus actually by doing that you miss out on the best part of the deer, the tenderloins. They're under the spine, not on top, those are backstraps.

2020-11-20 18:34:28 UTC

I reach in and pull out the inside tender loins along the spine with my hands. Too easy.

2020-11-20 18:35:23 UTC

How do you do that without making any incisions below the spine, where the guts reside? That's a new trick to me 🧐

2020-11-20 18:36:44 UTC

Liike I said. You can get every part of the deer. You cut near the breast bone and reach your hand in. You feel the meat and pull it off carefully with your hands. You dont need a knife for inside tenderloins. I never leave meat on a deer.

2020-11-20 18:38:09 UTC

You just have to use your minds eye and go around the gut sack. You leave all that attached. When you are done you will have a skeleton with guts hangin off of it essentially.

2020-11-20 18:38:42 UTC

You don't get the ribs? That's some great meat there. Boil it off for some amazing stew

2020-11-20 18:39:47 UTC

No I dont eat the rib meat. Nor the lower legs. My dog does though. He loves deer legs.

2020-11-20 18:40:15 UTC

Next time ya get one out where u can gut it old fashioned style, save the ribs

2020-11-20 18:40:28 UTC

There's a lot of silver skin there u gotta get rid of

2020-11-20 18:40:49 UTC

But if u get it all off, it's great stew meat

2020-11-20 18:41:12 UTC

Im not hunting this year sadly.

2020-11-20 18:41:15 UTC

Make an awesome broth in the process
