Not all had caseless turrets

2020-11-11 20:31:27 UTC

Some American and British tank destroyers had full on turrets

2020-11-11 20:31:37 UTC

ok

2020-11-11 20:31:38 UTC

Like the Wolverine

2020-11-11 20:31:55 UTC

ok thanks

> Per tonnage of armor and strength of their guns, yes the French AMD's and Renault's were better armed and arguably their tanks were better, however the majority of them had 1 major flaw that made them easy prey to Panzers, cramped turrets that had manual turning instead of hydrolic till they got their hands on the Sherman
@Zilla The French Somua tanks had a riveted hull that if struck directly on the rivet line, the whole tank could come apart

2020-11-11 20:33:24 UTC

And if it didnt, the rivets would kill the crew of the vehicle

2020-11-11 20:33:37 UTC

what a riviting conversation

2020-11-11 20:34:27 UTC

Rivetted armor made for easy repairing of a tank and made it quicker to build, tho the negatives heavily outweighed the positives

2020-11-11 20:35:02 UTC

Thats for if you have absolutely no consideration of the Crew but you want a lot of tanks quickly

2020-11-11 20:35:39 UTC

Which during the beginning when both the British and the French quickly needed armor, stuff like the M3 Lee was a good substitute

2020-11-11 20:36:30 UTC

M3 was a meh in my opinion

2020-11-11 20:37:23 UTC

Overall it was a bad tank, but in operation as a supplimental tank and a stopgap design it was one of the best

2020-11-11 20:38:36 UTC

I feel that one of the most Iconic tanks of All Time is the Tiger 1

2020-11-11 20:38:48 UTC

Definitely

2020-11-11 20:39:08 UTC

You pretty much cant have a WW2 game or movie without one

2020-11-11 20:39:20 UTC

Its seen two Fronts of the same war, wielded by one of the most infamous powers on earth, with a reputation to boot

2020-11-11 20:40:43 UTC

Too bad the Germans werent being smart with them near the end of the war

2020-11-11 20:41:56 UTC

Are we trash talking germans?

2020-11-11 20:42:09 UTC

Hitler wasted time and materials on building a tank, the most feasible of which still took up the metal the likes of which could be used to build 3 tiger tanks and one Panzer IV

2020-11-11 20:42:12 UTC

yes i did the math

2020-11-11 20:43:26 UTC

The King Tiger and the Maus were ambitious goals, but vastly too expensive

2020-11-11 20:44:00 UTC

The King tiger was more feasible in my opinion as its main issue was the transmission, but then again, its german

2020-11-11 20:44:19 UTC

The Maus on the other hand, was way to ambitious for that stage of the war

2020-11-11 20:44:24 UTC

Yeah

2020-11-11 20:45:21 UTC

Had either of the 2 worked like they did on paper, well the fall of Germany woulda taken longer to end i say

2020-11-11 20:45:50 UTC

Germany would have lasted longer by simply improving on their current designs

2020-11-11 20:45:58 UTC

True

2020-11-11 20:46:28 UTC

Frankly they shoulda started on the Panther much earlier than they did

2020-11-11 20:47:56 UTC

But Hitler had to be thay guy

2020-11-11 20:50:39 UTC

Frankly that little mustache freal was the bane of germanies technological advancements

2020-11-11 20:50:59 UTC

And logistics

2020-11-11 20:52:14 UTC

And why he didnt have Porche melt down their Porche tiger hulls to be used for something else instead of the horrendous Ferdinand i wont know

2020-11-11 20:53:37 UTC

Especially when the Porche tiger failed right in front of his own eyes

2020-11-11 20:54:20 UTC

I believe they used the Gas Turbine engines of the Porche Tiger on the Maus as well didn't they?

2020-11-11 20:54:30 UTC

It was an electric engine

2020-11-11 20:54:38 UTC

huh

2020-11-11 20:55:27 UTC

Yeah, really smart idea on paper becsuse rhey were facing oil shortages, but failed horrendously in practice because the tech just wasnt there yet

2020-11-11 20:56:44 UTC

If it got stuck in even the smallest puddles of mud, that was practicslly a death sentence to it

2020-11-11 20:58:03 UTC

And inclines were also a death sentence to it

2020-11-11 21:58:50 UTC

ffs it could barely function on the road
