omw, our school's friday "news-network" just did a whole stunt on the DC riots. They are actually supporting the police that were there (finally), but condemned them for not shooting rioters with rubber bullets and gas (which I think they actually did?) Then they showed BLM footage and said "police shot peaceful BLM protestors with rubber bullets. Again, PEACEFUL PRotesSterS!!" The girl reading the news also sounded like she was gonna cry, so that's cringe.
oh, ye, the BLM footage they showed litterally had an antifa guy chucking what looked like a bottle at police too. *fp*
kinda the same for me, im in a "contemporary issues" class and we just talked about the riots and almost everybody said all the protesters should have life in prison, theres only 2 sane people in that class including me, i supported the protests and my friend said that he didn't but there shouldn't be any punishments
fair enough. I think that anyone who vandalized property or caused bodily harm should probably be given a trial, but we can not forget the eight amendment. The punishment must be reasonable given the crime. I ofc, also did not support the riots, just the protest.
well the anger is that about 90% of the protests were peaceful, and there was some serious abuse/overuse of power
well, well. defund the police unless they are enforcing what we believe in
just to push back you on this, but if this was a conservative setting, maybe the reaction would be flipped (ie. the audience condemning police for excessive force on Trump supporters and cheer when BLM rioters got shot with rubber bullets)
