@Phøtøs i think it depends on how you view it and whether gender/race plays a key role in the character's role in the plot. Ie. Katniss was originally has dark-tone skin in the book. And the reason she's female is because it subverts the gender role. Meanwhile, James Bond being a male isn't necessarily important
