the problem with communism is that not everybody is able to "produce" things, and not all produced things are perceived at the same "value". capitalism promotes negotiations between the market agents.
also, funny side story i recalled while i'm reading this "controlling the labour production will free you" argument: in vietnam after the war, the government does not allow trade at all. so if you produce salt, you're eating that shit. people has to create black market or trade stealthily. a lot of doctors and engineers in saigon were also relocated in rural area and they know zits about farming, so they starved or destroy the land
