or just 2?

2020-10-28 00:19:36 UTC

Conservative and liberal are such misleading terms. It is the Democrats who want to conserve racism and it is the Republicans who want liberty for all.

2020-10-28 00:19:37 UTC

2

2020-10-28 00:19:57 UTC

Well the conservatives and liberals are the main ones but there's also libertarian

2020-10-28 00:20:25 UTC

okay

2020-10-28 00:20:36 UTC

so another question how does voting work in the us?

2020-10-28 00:20:46 UTC

it isn't by each person

2020-10-28 00:20:51 UTC

it's by states?

2020-10-28 00:21:16 UTC

how are states determined to be more valuable and less valuable than others?

2020-10-28 00:21:22 UTC

in voting

2020-10-28 00:22:55 UTC

By population. California is the most populated state and has 55 electoral points. Other less populated states bring less points.

2020-10-28 00:23:31 UTC

so it is by population?

2020-10-28 00:23:41 UTC

Yes but with one caveat

2020-10-28 00:24:05 UTC

what is a cavecat

2020-10-28 00:24:19 UTC

Electoral votes are based on members of congress with each state. Each state has two senators and at least one representative. Every state gets at least 3

2020-10-28 00:24:28 UTC

DC is also given 3 electoral votes

2020-10-28 00:24:58 UTC

That's why smaller states have slightly higher electoral votes per capita

2020-10-28 00:25:20 UTC

so people aren't voting for the president they are voting for a representative which reflects the president?

2020-10-28 00:25:26 UTC

idfk

2020-10-28 00:25:35 UTC

Yes

2020-10-28 00:25:39 UTC

oh ok

2020-10-28 00:25:42 UTC

In 48 states, it's winner take all

2020-10-28 00:26:06 UTC

should there not be a odd number of states in case it is even?

2020-10-28 00:26:10 UTC

i mean

2020-10-28 00:26:16 UTC

like 50 50

2020-10-28 00:26:27 UTC

So if Trump wins Texas by 1 vote, he gets all 38 of the electoral votes

2020-10-28 00:27:24 UTC

This should explain it nicely

2020-10-28 00:29:18 UTC

this seems like a bad system honestly

2020-10-28 00:30:08 UTC

imo i personality don't see much a use for the system these days

2020-10-28 00:30:22 UTC

It is a system which prevents mob rule. That is why they have an electoral vote and a popular vote. If 51% of the people vote for someone, the 49% can still win. It protects the rights of the minority from the mob rule of the majority, that you would otherwise have to deal with in an absolute democracy.

2020-10-28 00:31:01 UTC

wait how i thought all votes when no matter what

2020-10-28 00:31:07 UTC

That’s why the United States are a Constitutional Republic, and not a Democracy.

2020-10-28 00:31:23 UTC

so i have been lied to all this time

2020-10-28 00:32:49 UTC

I believe the constitution doesn't contain the word democracy lol

2020-10-28 00:33:00 UTC

So imagine if 51% of Americans lived in California and the other 49% lived in the rest of the country. Would it be fair for California to always pick the candidate, just because they have the most people?

2020-10-28 00:33:29 UTC

That’s why they have the electoral college.

2020-10-28 00:33:58 UTC

but state wise people don't get represented

2020-10-28 00:34:08 UTC

i guess it's good

2020-10-28 00:34:10 UTC

i mean

2020-10-28 00:34:49 UTC

idk
