It wasn't like I had the gun in my room, it was kept in the family gun safe.

not sure if it's safe. You have to wait until people get to a mature age, then they can practice dealing with firearms.

Better to cement safety early.

if you instill a sense of respect and common sense about the firearm at a young age, that will help make sure they dont grow up to be idiots regarding guns... dont just hand a child a gun and say have fun, more people would be less ignorant if they were taught about firearms as children.
