My bad

2020-10-11 20:08:46 UTC

Mylan is a company

2020-10-11 20:08:47 UTC

i believe

2020-10-11 20:08:51 UTC

FFS

2020-10-11 20:08:52 UTC

yes it is, i was super confused

2020-10-11 20:08:52 UTC

Yes they are

2020-10-11 20:09:08 UTC

the reality is we have no real data about the costs of manufacturing and the RnD that went into the Epipen

2020-10-11 20:09:28 UTC

But seriously, when a drug is less expensive in a poor country, it's because ... well, they're poor

2020-10-11 20:09:39 UTC

All im saying is that if they removed the patent on the epipen someone will make a more affordable and better option in my opinion

2020-10-11 20:09:42 UTC

buy from the poor make them rich

2020-10-11 20:09:44 UTC

ehehe

2020-10-11 20:09:55 UTC

@Kaladin honestly, the time itself depends on the company filing said patent although i assume the absolute max should be between 5 to 10 years

2020-10-11 20:10:06 UTC

The orginial epipen used to cost 100 bucks

2020-10-11 20:10:12 UTC

but the company said we want more money

2020-10-11 20:10:18 UTC

they got what they wanted

2020-10-11 20:10:20 UTC

@GotatoChi People my age know at LEAST one person that would make Xanax trips to Mexico in the 80s

2020-10-11 20:10:23 UTC

because they have 0 competition

2020-10-11 20:10:27 UTC

yea but if you remove the patent you're talking about using government influence to steal someone's intellectual property

2020-10-11 20:10:31 UTC

@TheBlackRedneck wouldn't every thing from before seem cheaper due to inflation though?

2020-10-11 20:10:37 UTC

thats an **extremely** slippery slope

2020-10-11 20:11:00 UTC

Yes many things go into pricing. Regulations, taxes, production costs, acquisition of material cost etc.

2020-10-11 20:11:03 UTC

you should be able to have a patent and be the only ones to sell something but if it is something that directly saves peoples lives they should have a law saying you can't sell for much more than cost of production

2020-10-11 20:11:09 UTC

i would certainly never bother innovating in America if I knew the government could(and would if they deemed it necessary) confiscate my creation for the 'greater good'

2020-10-11 20:11:16 UTC

aka socialism

2020-10-11 20:11:22 UTC

@NorseWarrior You're correct. It's not some simple thing.

2020-10-11 20:11:24 UTC

Listen, I definitely think that you couldn’t just get rid of patents. But I have to do a lot more research before I came to a conclusive decision on my own.

2020-10-11 20:11:35 UTC

Im not saying get rid of all

2020-10-11 20:11:36 UTC

patents

2020-10-11 20:11:41 UTC

im just saying get rid of them

2020-10-11 20:11:42 UTC

in medicine

2020-10-11 20:11:46 UTC

in my opinion

2020-10-11 20:11:56 UTC

that's still a terrible idea in my opinion that would result in chaos my dood

2020-10-11 20:12:18 UTC

@TheBlackRedneck You're worse than the real OMB at this point 🤣 https://i.ytimg.com/vi/0ftYbqnJWmc/maxresdefault.jpg

2020-10-11 20:12:28 UTC

can they choose to not sell if people threaten to remove patents

2020-10-11 20:12:32 UTC

Well I mean that’s what I was talking about I guess. I don’t think we could just get rid of them in medicine. But I totally get what you’re saying and I understand your points @TheBlackRedneck

2020-10-11 20:12:33 UTC

and it would overall hurt innovation in medicine too, as i said before, nobody would have any motivation to create new medicines anymore if they knew the government might just up and decide to seize/remove their IP

2020-10-11 20:12:38 UTC

Ok lets have an example

2020-10-11 20:12:45 UTC

oh ffs

2020-10-11 20:12:47 UTC

If I make a medicine

2020-10-11 20:12:53 UTC

and get a patent on it

2020-10-11 20:13:00 UTC

I'm the only one who can produce that medicine
