400s is soft and pretty bad

400i is better and closer to a HD600 in terms of tiering

but gross treble and bad extension for a planar

they claim the he400s is easier to drive the the i which is why i said portable

looking at FR the hd 579 looks really impressive compared to the hd600 considering its only $150 and nice looking

don't bother with the newer 500 tier

though stock pads arent great for extension afaik

which ramps the price up considerably

didnt know they were so marked up over here

they go for pretty similar prices on sale in the US

their good pads are like $30 or something, i would try it with the stock ones and if i didnt like it get the good ones the next month

you'd need something like audeze/zmf pads to get extension

the hifiman pads dont seal well enough

i still wouldnt reccomend the 400i though
