Snakes as pets: Plenty of food, safe from predators, parasites, and cold, gets to relax and hide as much as it feels safe, and was likely breed in captivity, and thus has no hunting practice
PETA: How dare you own that snake, it belongs in the wild, where it'll likely starve from not knowing how to hunt, or get eaten by a larger animal

I've heard of stories like that, where wildlife rescuers find a snake that needs help, thinking it's wild, and when trying to feed it live mice to keep it wild, they find out the snake had no idea what to do with a live mouse since it was captive bred and fed thawed frozen mice it's entire life
