@Matthew it can affect the shaving but not by a large margin, I think it's mainly about comfort and feel

The Gillette I had was nice and hefty but I honestly preferred my super light shavette if it wasn't for the time factor

A 8 dollar used Gillette off eBay is comfy. By the way boiling nickel plating in cream of tarter strips it off. But also leaves a nice rose gold finish.

if you live in the US there's used and not perfect looking but functional safety razors on ebay. Hipsters want new old stock so things are cheap on that end.
