Coal plants are, on average, retired after 46 years. Same goes for nuclear plants.

"Most" (untrue) are relics because the majority of the public is grossly uneducated about it and any push to invest in nuclear would be detested by the public.

Part of the reason there's spillage at all is because no place wants to store spent fuel, mostly because of public backlash.
