I am not sure if you get what I mean, I am talking about making the daily necessary travel public. If you wanna go visit someplace 50+ miles away that I hope you dont work at cause thats a long way to go everyday then you could use private means of transportation

2020-12-19 22:35:02 UTC

but making people use it for grocery shopping and banking?

2020-12-19 22:35:10 UTC

those are essential

2020-12-19 22:35:19 UTC

Yeah the more essential stuff

2020-12-19 22:35:46 UTC

we'd have to raise taxes in order to fund extra busing, SEPTA here in my town already has 15 buses, and nobody uses them

2020-12-19 22:35:52 UTC

because our cars are more fuel efficient

2020-12-19 22:35:57 UTC

now than ever before

2020-12-19 22:36:02 UTC

the buses we have are from '06

2020-12-19 22:36:05 UTC

and use so much fuel

2020-12-19 22:36:24 UTC

I think you got a demand problem then

2020-12-19 22:36:42 UTC

we also have a supply issue

2020-12-19 22:36:46 UTC

I bet it is also expensive to use those buses?

2020-12-19 22:36:56 UTC

in what sense?

2020-12-19 22:37:10 UTC

More expensive than using your car

2020-12-19 22:37:58 UTC

yes

2020-12-19 22:38:04 UTC

tax wise and time wise

2020-12-19 22:38:14 UTC

they're also not efficient

2020-12-19 22:39:22 UTC

Yeah you need to bring down the prices, you need to modernize it and have a supply that is sufficient in that it minimizes time loss to the extent that people start using it

2020-12-19 22:39:33 UTC

And you need it to be fairly reliable

2020-12-19 22:39:42 UTC

We can't

2020-12-19 22:39:46 UTC

I don't think you understand

2020-12-19 22:39:50 UTC

we;re fairly spaced out

2020-12-19 22:40:10 UTC

we don't live in proximity to essential services like you might think, and we can't lower prices

2020-12-19 22:40:29 UTC

it's more efficient, less expensive, and less harmful on the environment to use personal cars in the states

2020-12-19 22:41:39 UTC

we can't modernize the buses either

2020-12-19 22:41:48 UTC

they're Greyhounds

2020-12-19 22:41:52 UTC

they're built to last

2020-12-19 22:42:39 UTC

There is still a constant demand to travel those distances to essential services, the problem is the non-modernized fleet of buses that are inefficient. The problem is the pricing and the time gaps

2020-12-19 22:42:57 UTC

there are no stops to those destinations

2020-12-19 22:43:05 UTC

we have around 4 grocers around here

2020-12-19 22:43:08 UTC

multiple banks

2020-12-19 22:43:16 UTC

and more restaurants that imaginable

2020-12-19 22:43:33 UTC

you simply cannot modernize the fleet, and reroute the buses to cover everything

2020-12-19 22:43:58 UTC

You can build bus stops, that isnt the problem

2020-12-19 22:44:23 UTC

the problem is the modernization can't be paid for, we don't have state budgets for township transport

2020-12-19 22:44:30 UTC

as we will never need it

2020-12-19 22:44:42 UTC

it may work in Sweden, but not here

2020-12-19 22:45:02 UTC

there will never be demand, we'd spend so much to get so little payoff

2020-12-19 22:45:13 UTC

we'd be taxing people at even more than we already do, which is a fuck ton

2020-12-19 22:45:18 UTC

specifically in my area

2020-12-19 22:45:37 UTC

I do not see why it wouldnt work over there, the only issue you seem to have is demand because of the low quality and supply aswell as relatively high pricing
