Esau sells Jacob his birthright, then later in life when Isaac is old and goes to bless Esau, because Esau made his mother and father fret over the Hittite women he married they helped Jacob secure the blessing
Jacob is sent then afterward to the clan of his mother to ensure he takes wife of her and Isaac's semitic lineage, on the way there an angel of God wrestles with Jacob and so he becomes named by God, Israel
