It's not just that.

2020-12-18 19:15:35 UTC

but you are going to make EVERYONE pay the price for years

2020-12-18 19:15:47 UTC

It's the side-effects caused by covid-19 that exasperate preexisting morbidity.

2020-12-18 19:16:41 UTC

there are almost no health studies that do not have income/wealth as a contributing factor.

2020-12-18 19:16:43 UTC

I personally don't agree with the lockdowns, don't think they do as much good as politicians seem to think they do ... lots of studies that show it's a wash in terms of mitigating the spread

2020-12-18 19:17:20 UTC

if you make the country poor, the poorest people in society will pay the price. maybe not in the next few months but in years to come

2020-12-18 19:17:25 UTC

Uh, generally this is because you know, you're poorer and usually this means your in worse health.

2020-12-18 19:17:35 UTC

@Maw exactly!

2020-12-18 19:18:00 UTC

You're making the argument of socialized healthcare though, which I'm not sure you're intending.

2020-12-18 19:18:02 UTC

poor people are the least healthy, live less, more likely to have more comorbidities

2020-12-18 19:18:40 UTC

making all these people go out of business will make everyone poorer and in worse health

2020-12-18 19:19:19 UTC

so you might save the 80+ year olds but it is not without cost to literally everyone else

2020-12-18 19:20:57 UTC

Also 80+ CFR is more like 30-40%.

2020-12-18 19:21:01 UTC

Not 10%.

2020-12-18 19:21:09 UTC

social medicine is just the young subsidizing the care costs of the old - which is fine.

2020-12-18 19:21:27 UTC

but a consequence of older people living longer is more older people

2020-12-18 19:21:50 UTC

and hence you need more young people to subside their care and the cycle continues

2020-12-18 19:22:36 UTC

Last I checked, the retirement age was abysmal.

2020-12-18 19:23:11 UTC

And young people were significantly more inclined to be unemployed.

2020-12-18 19:23:15 UTC

Than people 45+

2020-12-18 19:23:21 UTC

CFR versus IFR

2020-12-18 19:23:24 UTC

well that depends, do you want somebody aged 80 piloting your plane? or a police women 76?

2020-12-18 19:24:40 UTC

so in reality an increasingly smaller proportion of people subside the care costs of an increasing elderly population

2020-12-18 19:25:46 UTC

Retirement age is now getting really close to the life expectancy. You're talking about less people on pension.

2020-12-18 19:26:14 UTC

Right now it's around 10-15 off if I recall.

2020-12-18 19:27:19 UTC

@Maw yes thats true, but as i said if people are going to be working to 80 what jobs are they going to be doing? its not obvious to me that people will accept people 70-85 doing a great number of jobs

2020-12-18 19:28:34 UTC

Well the 80+ population is still really, really small.

2020-12-18 19:29:18 UTC

2020-12-18 19:31:01 UTC

@Maw and its growing massively

2020-12-18 19:31:14 UTC

still that's over 16M in the US

2020-12-18 19:34:18 UTC

For sure.

2020-12-18 19:35:01 UTC

there is a rumor going around that the women in the GA video doing the counting when everyone had gone home has been arrested, confessed and gone into protective custody. still trying to find official confirmation....

2020-12-18 19:38:31 UTC

Mexico said the lockdown is a form of dictatorship. Did anyone think of mexico as more free than America?

2020-12-18 19:46:56 UTC

I have only read that she went into Hiding. No arrest.

2020-12-18 19:47:49 UTC

@Phil at the end nothing comes out of these hearing

2020-12-18 19:48:08 UTC

the guy speaking is annoying.

2020-12-18 20:44:37 UTC

AZ filing a complaint with SCOTUS about subpoenas? Lol. That seems fishy.

2020-12-18 20:59:32 UTC

lol
