@meglide Not really. I dont understand what they are trying to say. Many words, but I fail to understand the content.
did you understand?
if the point is that "we had the vaccine all along" there exists 10 000 experimental vaccines at any given time.
the problem isnt really creating them, the problem is certifying their effect and safety.
comparison, last time I checked there were 140 different treatment trials for small cell leukemia.
Doesnt really mean we "had the cure for cancer all along" if one of them turns out to be effective.
@Doc why I asked for your comments ... best I can tell they are saying this mRNA technique to making vaccines is like what 3-D printing is to manufacturing, once you have the blueprint you can push button and have a vaccine ... statements that caught my eye include "The whole time, we also knew that the Moderna vaccine was essentially safe. We were just waiting to know for sure that it worked, too." and "None of the scientists I spoke to for this story were at all surprised by either outcome — all said they expected the vaccines were safe and effective all along. Which has made a number of them wonder whether, in the future, at least, we might find a way to do things differently — without even thinking in terms of trade-offs. Rethinking our approach to vaccine development, they told me, could mean moving faster without moving any more recklessly." ... really? I wonder if all our technologies may have a tendency to make us the greatest fools of history ... just like one thought Boeing knew how to make airplanes that didn't crash on their own until the 737 MAX where they abandoned sound engineering principles to meet schedule and cost ... is that what they're advocating here with vaccines?
""The whole time, we also knew that the Moderna vaccine was essentially safe. " - Impressive, as there is no reason to assume that, and plenty of reason to assume the opposite.
what they are advocating is making billion of dollars.
that kind of hubris makes me want to be last in line for said vaccine
How old are you?
roughly
54
if I was 70+ I would probably want to be first in line
do you have any medical conditions?
no
well none that I know of
ethnicity
?
that's me in my avatar
well, you are riding a trainig bike there, so in total I would your estimated chance of dying from covid if you get infected with a significant amount of viral particles somewhere below 0.1
The chance of having an anahylactic reaction to any vaccine is probably higher than that.
You understand this is me making a rough estimate, and not actual medical advice, right?
correct
(corrected prophylactic to anaphylactic....autocorrect?)
I have problems seeing how the odds stack in favor of an experimental vaccine in your case.
I have more reasons to want one, I am not getting it till at least 2 years in.
But again, I remind you, sir; this is NOT medical advice. This is social activity with a dude you know online who happens to be an MD.
or rather...claim to be an MD
just about to correct you on that one LOL
😄
diploma
hung it where it belongs
well I think the calculations for me and my family are not really death via virus but possible long-term consequences of the virus versus the vaccine (neither of which we know much about? crap!) ... we're not in the first or second or third batches so our choice is several months out at the least
which might turn out to be a good thing.
Just stay away from public restrooms and eat at home.
And always sit down to put your socks on
pretty much what we're doing
