We saw this repeatedly when Hillary ran against Bernie in 2015-16. At the last minute, in the last urban center yet to be counted, there would suddenly be just enough votes to force a tie breaker coin toss (of which I believe Clinton one EVERY SINGLE coin toss) or suddenly have just enough votes to edge out Sanders. But they were not prepared for Trump in 2016 because they believed their own bullshit hype. This time they targeted the swing states Trump needed, knew they were, which is why they didn't bother campaigning.
