So, by government force, you propose forcing ISPs to expand coverage to the entirety of the United States--including nearly-uninhabited regions of it--and forcing them to install Gigabit or some shit?
Are you retarded?
They're already building better internet infrastructure in most of the populated areas and such.
The problem is just that people start using more bandwidth whenever they get more access.
I'm not suggesting the government FORCE them to wire the goddamn deserts with fiber, you dipshit
I'm saying that arbitrarily allowing them to slow customers, PAYING customers down is bullshit
Your proposal is to use force to require that all ISPs--even local businesses which don't have the money to maintain your proposals--have to provide unlimited, unthrottled access to everything, without any sales of speed lanes to third party corporations, using "MILLIONS OF DOLLARS these companies rake in daily".
Well you know
If I paid like
$20 less maybe
I would get slowed down.
Who the fuck cares about "PAYING customers" when I get what I pay for?
like lol I'm going to just say "here's $1 now gimme gigabit"
"can't slow me down"
The Fuck are you even arguing against? I'm not saying internet needs to be free gibsmedats. If I'm paying for access to a certain amount of data a month (which I am), it shouldn't matter if I blow through it all in a day torrenting hardcore porn. I paid for it.
You sound angry. Are you mad?
Oh, livid.
This is a typical Internet package in the United States. Note that PAYING CUSTOMERS are arbitrarily denied access to the 100Mbps internet access available here.

Furthermore, they are denied access to television as a whole, and even some channels, on cheaper plans--despite the fact that this company could still provide the content.
Speed limits to ALL traffic aren't the same thing as speed limits to chosen sites.
Speed limit: 60 mph
Speed limit 25 mph if you're going to target. We don't like target.
More like
Speed limit: 60mph (Interstate)
Speed limit: 25mph (going to Target)
You're in the land of the free
Just start your own local company <:alismirk:230784726615588865>
That's the point.
Instead of dismantling an abusive system, become an abuser! How logical.
Your Socialism is showing.
>Muh boogeyman
Why would any given local ISP inherently be an abuser that mistreats its customers?
....profit?
>Instead of dismantling an abusive system, become an abuser! How logical.
But by providing a fair alternative, you'd dismantle said abusing system <:thvnk:332928260004642827>
What prevents me from establishing a non-profit ISP?
....cost?
....Did you know that Habitat for Humanity charges money for houses?
captilism my friend
It's obviously too expensive to just give people free houses but they build them and sell them at very low costs, effectively relying on donations to survive.
Furthermore, wouldn't there be a profit motive in filling an unfilled niche of "ISPs that don't fuck people over"?
Did you know that erecting a house with readily available materials is nowhere close to the level of complexity as wiring an area with the infrastructure to provide internet access?
Go to your community center and ask people in your area if they're interested in a fair alternative to your current isp. If you get enough people take a credit, maybe even get some state subvention. Build the lines to the next center and you're gucci.
You'd could extra credit by building them on lines instead of underground.
Indeed. Some towns already do this.
My town does it. And it sucks shit.
