@Mark R ask your religious questions here

2020-12-09 00:01:15 UTC

There is a spiritual side to man

2020-12-09 00:01:28 UTC

Better to follow God than something else

2020-12-09 00:21:48 UTC

I'll let others answer why Christianity is right, because my answer isn't well thought out beyond "it's historically accurate, and therefore correct". Having values is meaningless if your life is also meaningless. Your values mean nothing, as does everything else you do because your life and death are effectively the same; without a life beyond your worldly being, you exist only to suffer.

2020-12-09 10:52:02 UTC

well its philosophically accurate too

2020-12-09 10:52:22 UTC

christianity has the right conception of God, unlike any pagan religion

2020-12-09 10:53:48 UTC

christianity specifically is right since our God became man for our redemption, fulfilling the prophecies and restoring man

2020-12-09 10:54:25 UTC

but yeah its historically right too

2020-12-09 10:54:33 UTC

thats just not an autistic enough approach for me

2020-12-09 23:08:17 UTC

How do I respond an atheist argument about how “religion keeps humans from progress” or points like such

2020-12-09 23:42:43 UTC

what do they mean by progress

2020-12-09 23:43:05 UTC

like to make all our men into women and all our women into men?

2020-12-10 00:02:41 UTC

The context ig is at the points where “secular advancements (or advancement in general) were held back by religion”, i.e. science advancement, political growth,

2020-12-10 00:02:55 UTC

Sorry if im wording it in an odd way

2020-12-10 00:09:04 UTC

I don’t see much evidence for science being held back by religion, considering most scientists weren’t secular and many clergy were the equivalent to scientists in the Middle Ages and early renaissance

2020-12-10 00:09:25 UTC

Of course it’s silly to say “religion” as if they are all the same

2020-12-10 00:13:54 UTC

And the most religious countries progressed the fastest

2020-12-10 00:14:27 UTC

Or most Christian, since Muslim countries weren’t too quick

2020-12-12 02:55:00 UTC

I had some lewd material opened and ready to go. I was planning on giving in to temptation tonight. I then clicked on it, stopped for a second, and very very reluctantly and begrudgingly clicked the X button to close it.

2020-12-12 02:55:40 UTC

I almost had to grab my finger and force myself to press that X button

2020-12-12 02:56:03 UTC

dont even know where that bit of will came from

2020-12-12 02:56:14 UTC

but I am eternally greatfull for it

2020-12-12 02:58:21 UTC

its literally almost as if someone else had grabbed my finger and made me click that X button

2020-12-12 02:58:35 UTC

thats how I would describe it

2020-12-12 03:01:03 UTC

I wish I had such willpower tbh I’m still trying to stop

2020-12-12 03:02:02 UTC

pray my brother

2020-12-12 03:02:37 UTC

Probably should, I don’t do enough praying

2020-12-12 03:02:40 UTC

avoid what leads you to indulge in it

2020-12-12 03:03:15 UTC

ill pray for you too, now that I have this free time that I would have otherwise spent engaging in degenerate acts against God

2020-12-12 03:12:21 UTC

@itslennytime Btw a friend of mine recently shared this with me. It's called the Surrender Novena. Pretty much a big "trust the plan" prayer to Jesus. Maybe you've heard of it but it was new to me.

2020-12-12 03:13:01 UTC

ill try it out, thank you my friend

2020-12-13 02:15:02 UTC

a cool thing about the pandemic at my parish church is that the pews are marked to where you sit in one row, and leave the other row vacant. The reason for this is so that father and the decans can walk through those ailes and give communion to those who can recieve

2020-12-13 02:15:29 UTC

so basically we recieve communion kneeling

2020-12-13 16:26:31 UTC

does anyone know where Baronius Press actually makes their books?

2020-12-13 16:27:01 UTC

im assuming they're made in the USA but I cant find anything that explicitly states that

2020-12-14 00:04:47 UTC

Its sort of a bad faith question because we can't really definatively say religion held us back without seeing a world where there wasn't religion to hold people back

2020-12-14 00:05:30 UTC

Also like other people said, priests in Europe basically were the intellectuals of that age

2020-12-14 00:05:48 UTC

Without them, its pretty safe to say we would have been wayyyy worse off

2020-12-14 00:06:00 UTC

Another thing is, their defination of progress isn't actually progress
