why don't the people who work in goods in just take the keys from the driver and hand them back when they are loaded. That's what they do at our place
Lots to catch up Phil, on many fronts. Watch all the links/streams
hey folks
Hey
@JP... shouldn't have to be done
Hey @JP
@Phil Whitehead True, but for the few times it happens it is deemed necessary
Hi Pablo
Hi @Clare P
@JP... perhaps the customer shouldn't offer bottom dollar on the shipping fees... If you pay the minimum, don't expect any more than the minimum provided. Those who actually do there job expect to be paid
That's true too but that's global capitalism for you, it is a race to the bottom with wages
@JP... doesn't really matter to me. I don't haul general merchandise. None of you pay worth a squat.
If you require quality service, you'll have to pay for that quality. And it darn sure doesn't come @ $1 a mile
Most of the truckers I deal with are from Romania or Poland now
The UK truckers moved on to earn better wages, good money to be had on tankers
My employer should be paying me as a UN interpretor, some of these guys can barely speak any English
Which of course will not happen, my wage will continue to fall down to the minimum wage and when I leave I will probably be replpaced by someone from another country too
@JP... I believe that, they've been taking over the trucking industry for a long while now. They will haul anything for nothing. You shippers and receivers love that
Hi guys, It's sickening that a country would let that happen to its people
*In Tony Montana voice* "It's capitalism, baby!"
sorry was watching scarface earlier
All over the EU
I'm hoping many will return home after Brexit but they will always pull in cheap workers from somewhere
After I got divorced I had to start doing home repairs and gardening for prop mgmt and homeowners, during a 5-year recession. When things improved I could charge homeowners $18/hr and wouldn't endure a prop mgmt for less than 25 or 30
that's pretty good Lloyd
I don't let the low wages bother me, I like working there and I live very frugally. I think a frugal life gives you freedom
The more you earn the more they expect from you
It was good. I'd remodeled about 29 dilapidated houses and could do anything
People like to call one , reliable worker
@The Modern Conservative must have took a break today
I'm in a similar business Lloyd
Things are booming over here for tradesmen but only because people couldn't go on holiday because of Covid so they're spending on their houses
Lots of freedom and meet lots of interesting people
Yep, I couldn't be employed ever again. I'm lucky my dad taught me a trade
I only work for private customers, no site work, no way
lol Clare
I tell my boys, they can't import trades
Sorry I'm reading and appreciating as you all chat.
Definitely
