Portland is just really weird. There is a huge Vietnamese population that makes up a good chunk of the middle class, and the rest of the people are either dirt poor or well off hipsters.Gentrification has made it unreasonably expensive to live anywhere inside the city, its like 1k$/mo for a no frills 1room studio without a kitchen anywhere within city limits, and further out there are a bunch of suburbs from the fifties without paved roads or sidewalks. A bunch of the houses in the inner city are REALLY old, circa 1920s ish, and not very well kept up so you end up paying huge rates for just making sure the place doesn't fall apart. Portland is fucked.
