@Aerkusa alright. your input is much appreciated. at the very least, i'd imagine having the extra breathing room for plugins and cache would be good.
Ya and 1gb is really the requirement for just android
the kodi devs seem to have a hardon for the rpi3 and that's stuck with 1gb, but yea, android is a bit of a lift just by itself
Ya rpi runs raspian
Which is debian linux
*i agree with them too, but having an integrated box w/o worry about psu or getting a separate remote is nice.
yea, would be cool if these kodi boxes were supported by deb but it's like chasing shadows with so many permutations of arm chips
Yea for sure
I have a pine64
ooh
you like it?
Nah not really
Tbh any of the non eMMC ones are shit
Unless you get a Samsung evo sdcard
They're better with Android
Er
Better with linux
But no core support because the chink allwinner arm chip has no core linux support
No hardware acceleration for video under linux
i have a q1900 and i figured it was overkill for kodi, but, not having to worry about this whole ecosystem of nonsense is a nice thing
And SD cards suck for primary storage with android
Ya I run my Kodi on a big ass htpc
When I setup Kodi all the live streams were terrible quality
But I was trying to build the pine64 to run a projector
I don't use it for live streams
I use it as a front end for my massive pirate movie collection
yea the attraction of these cheap devices is being able to stick them on all your extra old displays and give them to your folks or whatever
but the headache potential is just too damn high
Ya and 'cord cutters'
i want banana/orange/pine64 to succeed if only to give the rpifags a run for their money and encourage competition but let's face it there's only so much FOSS mental bandwidth to spare
Tbh if allwinner doesn't release their firmware code, pine is fucked
That's not fair, it's operable
Thanks to one dude named longsleep
Who compiled a working kernel
But he's pretty much given up on hardware video acceleration
So it works great as a headless server
But no usb3.0 so I can't use it for that
So maybe like a VPN or a firewall
But raspi does that just as well
yeah i mean it's like we can spend $20-40 for one of these neato arm dev boards but a j3160 is like what $80 and justworks
Basically pine64 got chinked
