and having that 8w radiation next to your head / balls
:D
4 to 6 miles can be quite a big difference if you live in a densely populated area
double the power is like 1.4x range on paper before the weather etc problems iirc
sure double the gain on the antennas and you double the distance pretty much (and battery usage :P)
inverse square law and irradiance are the things for the math needed
but yeah unless its line of sight the extra sending power wont do much
some hooligans are smoking weed near my house
I can smell it
ofc youd be most likely using repeaters. soo if you happen to have smartly place repeaters then sure 8w could come in use
luckily I have good line of sight from where I'd be using the radio
@Semi Truck mc Clusterfuck don't most Emergency services encrypt their traffic these days?
@Matthew who knows? I hope not, I live in a drug infested city, so all the arrests tend to be crackheads running around naked and shit like that, so I want to listen in on that
Literally just install an app on your phone
that's no fun
I like the autism shopping
kinda like tim, just less extreme
for now
most police comms are encrypted
at least the dispatch part
so the extra 3 watts aren't really worth cancelling and reordering for would you say?
@onoderaSecurity depends 100% of your usage
i live in a somewhat urban area, i've been just thinking about it
europe doesn't use 220 like america does im pretty sure
Just booted up mine, apparently there's a shooting in Texas right now. 10k people listening.
i mean 8W up does jack shit if you are only gonna listen in
I can still smell the weed outside
these kids are worse than the ones who go past my house on skateboards every day
@onoderaSecurity so yes unless you plan on broadcasting your heavy breathing experiences far and wide the 8w vs 4w is irrelevant
but if you plan broadcasting it out youd get that extra 4ish miles maybe
but for listening you need to start looking into the hell what is radio antennas ...
Please don't clog up the airwaves, btw. People treating ham radio like a chatroom is pretty cancerous.
ham radio is chatroom tho emerency waves are for different thing
"Duhhh....how's Every one doing??" Is sure to elicit a bunch of "shut up, faggot"
I plan on only listening for the main frequencies, and the unused ones are for airsoft comms with my team

ham radio seems like a chatroom for 50 something year old white men
what's your ham radio callsign though
no personal details nerds
