The experiment has nothing to do with the pendulum ITSELF - the purpose is NOT to show the pendulum keeps going on its own, powered by the earth moving. ALL pendulums (and all objects) eventually slow down and stop.
The purpose is the movement of the earth UNDER the pendulum, which is demonstrated by pegs lined up in a circle under the pendulum. A pendulum moving back and forth in a line, that will eventually knock down ALL pegs in a circle (15 degrees per hour) - show rotation of the earth under a pendulum going back and forth in a straight line.

Go to a science museum yourself. Look at the thing. There is a machine above it thatβs usually covered that keeps it moving after itβs started.
