on conspiracies alone, the term conspiracy theory should be defined as Merrian Webster does: a theory that explains an event or situation as the result of a secret plan by usually powerful people or groups

The definition wikipedia uses after 11/2018, is inacurate and only represents part of all conspiracies.

On this, here's what I've gotta use instead of "conspiracy theory": Conspiracy hypothesis, which is an explanation of an event or situation as the result of a secret plan by usually powerful people or groups *without evidence*

See the difference:
Conspiracy theories can have evidence, conspiracy hypotheses on the other hand have no evidence

they simply brush it off as if there's nothing to it

Most people are generally comfortable with their lives and have no reason to question anything. I see nothing wrong with questioning the order of things, though.
