@Mj The word "firmament" is used to translate rāqîaʿ (רָקִ֫יעַ), a word used in Biblical Hebrew. It is derived from the root raqqəʿ (רָקַע), meaning "to beat or spread out thinly", . so they ment thinly spread like they thought something was beyond. the biblical cosmology does suggest the dome shape and FE . but i have to look into if the words actually imply it ..
