American Flag Poem
Hello? Remember me?

Some people call me Old Glory, others call me the Star Spangled Banner.

But whatever they call me, I’m your flag.

The flag of the United States of America.

Something has been bothering me, so I thought I’d talk it over with you because it’s about me and you.

Not too long ago, people were lining up on both sides of the street to see a parade go by, and naturally I was leading that parade.

Proudly waving in the breeze.

And when your Daddy saw me coming, he would immediately remove his hat and place it over his left shoulder so his right hand would be over his heart.

And you, you were standing there, right next to your Dad.

You didn’t have a hat, and your little sister not to be outdone was standing right next to you.

Both of you had your right hand over your heart.

What has happened now?

I don’t feel as proud as I used to.

I’m still the same old flag.

I see children around, playing, shoutin’ … They don’t seem to know or care who I am or what I stand for.

I saw an elderly gentleman take his hat off, but when he saw others with theirs on, he turned around and slowly walked away.

Hey, I’m still the same old flag.

A few stars have been added since those parades long ago. A lot of blood has been shed.

Is it a sin to be patriotic anymore?

Have you forgotten who I am? What I stand for? And where I’ve been?

Anzio, Guadalcanal, Korea and Vietnam.

Take a good look one of these days at the memorial honor roll. Of all the names of all those that never came back. They gave their lives for this great nation to be free.

Under God.

When you salute me, you salute each and every one of them.

Well, it won’t be long now and I’ll be coming down that street leading that parade, and proudly waving in the breeze.

So, when you see me coming stand up straight and salute, and I’ll salute you by waving back.

And then I know, that you remember.

Meredith) – A United Kingdom woman has been sentenced to nine years behind bars after she admitted she killed her father and buried his body in a garden 12 years ago.

Barbara Coombs, 63, said she killed her father in 2006 after finding a box while she was gardening. Inside the box, she said she found indecent photos of herself and other children, the BBC reported.

Coombs said she walked into the living room, hit her 87-year-old father with a shovel and slashed his throat with the sharper edge of the tool. She then wrapped his body in a carpet, ordered a ton of soil and buried him the next day, the BBC said.

According to Manchester Evening News, Coombs hid the truth for 12 years, telling family members that he had suddenly died from a heart condition. Coombs insisted that her father wanted to be cremated and “wouldn’t have wanted the fuss of a funeral.”

Coombs continued the lie, spinning stories to anyone who was curious, including hospitals, doctors and benefits advisors. It wasn’t until 2017 – when a local housing association visited the family home – that more suspicions were raised.

Coombs eventually confessed to police about her crime and pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility.

She also said she lived as his “sex slave” for more than 40 years and admitted to fraudulently claiming about $250,000 from her father's benefits.

A judge in Otsego County is accused of trespassing in a woman’s home, taking photos and then posting them to social media.

According to court documents, in 2015 William Fisher – who serves as a town judge in Worcester – allegedly went into a house that belonged to his wife at the time without permission. The documents state that his wife’s parents had died and she was the executor of their will, so she took ownership of that home. Fisher allegedly went inside and took photos of the house after his wife defaulted on the mortgage.

According to the documents, Fisher allegedly “took photographs to document what he considered to be the poor physical condition of the premises,” and he then posted the photos to his wife’s Facebook account with the comment, “Mom and Alton are turning over in their graves.”

The court documents say this kind of behavior went on for years, event after Fisher allegedly promised in court to remove certain content from his Facebook page. They also state that Fisher believed he could lawfully enter the property to inspect it, because he was the spouse of the person who took over ownership of the home.

The New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct publicly admonished Fisher, and the documents state that Fisher “has acknowledged the impropriety of his conduct and has pledged to be more circumspect in the use of social media in the future.”

Fisher has served as a justice of the Worcester Town Court since 1991, and his current term ends on Dec. 31.
