A man pulled a woman onto the subway tracks in front of a screaming train in Brooklyn Thursday afternoon, killing both, authorities say, and the emergency response disrupted service along large portions of the A and C lines at the height of the evening rush.
The MTA originally said both the man and the woman jumped in front of the moving train at Broadway Junction just before 5 p.m. However, the NYPD said early Friday that the 54-year-old man pulled 42-year-old Cynthia Raiser of Queens onto the track bed from the platform.
Raiser was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man, whose name hasn't been released, was rushed to the hospital, where police said he died. It wasn't clear whether the two knew each other.
The A and C lines saw significant disruptions in Queens and Brooklyn through the evening. Service was up and running again by late Thursday.
