Gas Pipelines have a LOT of fail safes. It isn't like electricity, but there has to be pressure in the line. What would be MORE problematic??? A systemic increase in pressure that can blow pilot lights into pilot fires. There are MANY junctures where any given line can be shut down and isolated from the rest of the system for maintenance.
