Does someone really think morality is objective?.........
Harriss thinks it needs to be in that old ted talk
No, the application of objecting wellbeing measurements as a route to morality is what is objective. The moral system is still subjective.
objective wellbeing*
Well sure
It isn’t objective from a purely scientific point of view
I believe Matt Dillahunty says the goal "well being" is subjective, but the ways to achieve that goal are objective. Is that right?
I’d agree with that
I am not at all versed in logical arguments, fallacies...being smart. So I'm taking it all in.
So if well-being is being assumed to be the moral goal. If that goal is essentially taken on faith, isn’t the whole thing arbitrary?
Like I’m serious about this: if we’ll being is assumed as a goal, if it’s taken on faith, why is it any less arbitrary than religion
Because religion describes things which are metaphysical, I think that’s the main objection
Well I understand that fine, but that doesn’t address my problem exactly
Yea ik, it’s one of the big gaps in common atheistic reasoning
Not all atheists think that way
I use the word common with purpose of course
AH
Thrax cool name . Comes from Thrace ?
Haha no Thrax was the villain in Osmosis Jones
I liked his design and the name
Yes it is.
There is an significant diffrence between objective and absoulte @ThePangburn I think you are conflating objective and absolute. 😛
What do you mean when you say "the moral system is still subjective" ?
