what, that doesn't natter
thats the problem
No point in talking about it when you can just look it up
no no wait a second
if a "meaning" is different than a "common usage" than can you explain in what way it is different?
all that you've said so far is that the scientific dictionaries update to include the common usages
so they're the same?
I have to think of a example hold on
are we comparing a civilized society with savages?
my next point by the way, is that referring to pedophilia as a sexual orientation may be a slightly less common usage of the term "sexual orientation" than in the gay/lesbian/etc. sense but is a relatively common usage none the less
The usage of the word is just wrong
Find another word
there are no wrong usages
Sexual preference maybe
there are only uncommon usages
aren't those virtually the same
Words have definitions
saying that a usage can be "wrong" is just a misunderstanding of linguistics
no they do not
I have someone for this lmaoooo
language is effective at communicating because we have common usages
You’re right sexual preference isn’t even right
I get tired of how much he goes on about usages and so on but then prescribes terms
when i use a word in a common way, you can likely understand it
MCRAE
Yes
the less common, the less likely I will communicate effecitvely
no word definition is 100% universal, there are just varrying levels of prevelence
But when you’re diagnosing something like pedophilia you can’t just throw words around willy nilly. I totally understand what you’re trying to say. But if you’re literally trying to diagnose pedophilia then you can’t use words incorrectly
you can't use words "incorrectly" just in a way that fails to communicate because the usage is not mutually understood
Say pedophilia is a sexual orientation is a huge claim so it matters what words you use
Homosexuality and heterosexuality are the only two types of sexuality’s so far
Throwing pedophilia in there would have to have a lot of evidence. You can’t just say it is a sexuality
Hold on
When I said sexuality I meant sexual orientations
Every time I said sexuality I meant to say sexual orientations
Well I *can* say anything. And the beauty of language is if I get my message across than I have succeed in using langue effectively for communication
@T2the2ndpowr What is meant by what said is in regards to the label. Will they eventually become part of the alphabet gender
what exactly am i failing to communicate by calling pedophilia a "sexual orientation"
