There's a growing body of work showing that the difference between respirators and basic ass masks, while there is one, is not that great. Fact is, that viruses, unlike concrete particulate, don't really cause much damage with small exposure loads.

I mean sure, if you need the best possible protection go ahead. But like I wouldn't kill myself for KN95 china standard masks.

It is entirely dependent on the actual weave and makeup. "Breathable" is a big no-no for a cloth mask.
