Sheriff: Suspect shot in deputy involved shooting was known as major heroin dealer
FORT PIERCE, Fla. (CBS12) — Deputies are investigating an officer involved shooting in Fort Pierce Saturday.
St. Lucie County Sheriff's deputies say the shooting occurred at Okeechobee Road near Crossroads Parkway.
According to the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office, the Special Investigations unit was trying to make an arrest on a suspect known to be a major heroin dealer around 1:33 p.m.
The suspect has a history of fleeing and eluding law enforcement, the sheriff's office said, so when deputies approached the vehicle, the suspect threw it in to reverse to try and escape.
He ended up hitting another car and deputy who was standing on the side of the car, the sheriff's office added.
Deputies then fatally shot at him when he tried to advance in his car, they said. It is unclear how many deputies shot at him.
Authorities are uncertain if the suspect is part of a gang, but he was known in two counties as being a major heroin dealer, they said.
Deputies say the suspect is dead, and no law enforcement was injured.

Google to build data center in Henderson
LAS VEGAS (KTNV) - Google is expected to build a data center in Henderson near Warm Springs Road and Boulder Highway.
In an application submitted to Clark County has been approved, Designs LLC, detailed how they will build up and own the property while Google will operate and employ workers.
The reason for this new data center, according to Designs, is an increase in Google’s customer base and demand for producers and services.
This new center will also bring more jobs to the area. About 50 permanent positions will be inside, and more than 3,000 temporary construction jobs to build it all up.
The Center would bring in an estimated $94 million in tax revenue over the next 20 years, according to Designs.
13 Action News spoke with folks who live here in Henderson who say they’re excited about the center and say the construction goes to show the growth of Southern Nevada.
Others, though, are not exactly thrilled and say they're starting to lose the small town feel that once was.
“When you bring in more people, you have more crime, you have more traffic,” said Amy, Henderson resident.
I’m all for creating jobs, I love what the economy is doing but let's keep the jobs to our local people."
The data site expected to open its doors in 2020.
