"Darkness to light", 8-days, with each day becoming "lighter" than the last..... That is from the evening (sunset) of the 2nd, to the 10th (each year is different).

The "Signifier" comes before something is "signified". This as I understand it (just started reading it, no expert), should mean that the signifier is the start (2nd), and the end is when something has BEEN "signified", (10th), 8-days of illumination.!
