Despite the big efforts in order to audit its suppliers, in the last years the company have been involved in more than one scandal regarding the labor conditions of the worker of the supplier of Inditex. In my opinion the most important have been:
In 2003 a Zara´s supplier was involved in a Child Labor Scandal in Morocco
In 2006 another Zara´s supplier was involved in a Child Labor Scandal in north of Portugal
In 2008 a factory manufacturing Zara’s clothes in Bangladesh was closed for the dramatic conditions of workers (Inditex acted as intermediary between the intermediary and trade unions in order to sign an agreement that contemplate the redeployment of workers and worth labor conditions)
In 2011, only few months ago a Zara was accused of using suppliers who were running sweatshops for their outsourced production. More than 30 plants were closed in Brazil, and investigations are still continuing.
In the past years there have been also rumors about the existence of a ship surfing in international waters where workers were manufacturing clothes for Zara (personally I think it is only imagination)
