MONTAGUE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -
The Acting Police Chief for the town of Montague was arrested Friday morning. He has been placed on administrative leave.

Town Administrator Steven Ellis confirmed the development with Western Mass News Saturday morning.

He says Acting Chief Christopher Bonnett was placed on administrative leave on Friday, June 29 ..."Following news of his arrest early that morning."

The town of Montague now has Staff Sgt. Christopher Williams filling in the role of Acting Police Chief. This is on an "interim" basis, we're being told.

The Select Board's next scheduled meeting is set for July 9 and Ellis says they are expected to consider the matter at that time.

Details on Bonnett's arrest weren't immediately available.

Western Mass News will provide an update as soon as more details emerge.
