A suspect has been arrested on terrorism charges in connection with planning an attack on Fourth of July in Cleveland, ABC News sources confirmed.
The suspect, identified as Demetrius Nathaniel Pitts, was arrested in Cleveland, Ohio, over the weekend, the FBI said. The plot involved detonating a bomb on Independence Day.

During a press conference Monday, FBI officials said the "suspect expressed interest in chopping off heads and hands and disposing of bodies."
He allegedly told an undercover agent that he wanted to blow up a Fourth of July parade in downtown Cleveland.
Authorities said he actively conducted surveillance in downtown Cleveland, looked for a parking spot for a van packed with explosives and also expressed a desire to give remote control cars packed with explosives and shrapnel to children of military personnel.
FBI Agent Vicki Anderson said he was arrested for "attempted material support of a foreign terrorist organization." Pitts, a U.S. citizen, is expected to face a judge sometime on Monday. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Sunday that she doesn't believe President Trump is a fascist but called him the "most undemocratic president in modern American history."
Though Trump doesn't fit Albright's definition of a fascist -- "a fascist leader is somebody who uses violence to achieve what he wants," she said -- she is "worried" about his attitude toward freedom of speech, Albright said on BBC's "The Andrew Marr Show."
"I do not think he is a fascist. I do think he is the most undemocratic president in modern American history. And that troubles me," Albright said.
And by the way, it's not easy as a former diplomat to be in a foreign country and criticize one's own president. But I am concerned."
Albright, who led the State Department under President Bill Clinton between 1997 and 2001, has publicly written that fascism and the "tendencies that lead towards fascism" pose a more serious threat today than any time since the end of the second world war. Albright also recently penned a book titled "Fascism: A Warning."
The former secretary of state has also been a virulent critic of the President, saying that he is making the country look like a "victim" and a "chump." She has previously called him "the most anti-democratic leader that I have studied in American history."

CLEVELAND (AP) - Federal authorities say they've arrested a man who talked about setting off a bomb at a Fourth of July parade in Cleveland and attacking people watching fireworks.
Officials said Monday that the man who's an American citizen often expressed his support for al-Qaida and said he wanted to kill members of the U.S. military.
Authorities have charged Demetrius Pitts with attempted support of a terrorist organization. There are no court records listing an attorney for Pitts, who lives in the Cleveland area and was arrested Sunday.
FBI Special Agent Stephen Anthony says Pitts scouted out locations this past week for a site to attack in downtown Cleveland.
Anthony says it's not clear how close Pitts was to carrying out his threats, but he says authorities couldn't sit back and wait.

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
Agents from the FBI have arrested an individual accused of planning a terrorist attack on the Fourth of July in downtown Cleveland.
According to FBI agent Stephen Anthony, Demetrius Nathaniel Pitts, also known as Abdur Raheem Rahfeeq, was arrested Sunday morning after meeting with an undercover official.
Investigators started monitoring Pitts in 2017 when he resided in southern Ohio. He posted several disturbing posts on social media promoting violence and encouraging acts of terrorism supporting Al-Qaeda.
The FBI also alleges that Pitts wanted to provide children of military families with explosive, remote-controlled toy cars in hopes of harming their parents.
Agent Anthony says Pitts wrote on social media: "Blow up. Have a bomb. Blow up at the Fourth of July parade."
In May, the FBI says Pitts moved to Cleveland. He recently performed surveillance in Cleveland at sites that are typically populated on Independence Day, like Voinovich Park and near the U.S. Coast Guard station.
Pitts met with the undercover agent on Sunday, where he also discussed a separate attack in Philadelphia. He was then arrested and charged with attempted material support of a foreign terrorist organization, according to Cleveland's FBI office.
He has a lengthy criminal background, including charges of felonious assault, domestic violence, and aggravated robbery.
Pitts is scheduled to appear in front of a U.S. Magistrate Monday and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
