A Black Lives Matter rally is wrapping up in Washington square park Saturday evening after protesters took to the streets in Rochester.
Coming out around 4 p.m. with posters and chalk, around 130 people in the park held a Black Lives Matter rally, nearly two years to the day from a similar rally which went through the streets of Rochester late into the night.
News10NBC did ask the organizers of this event to share their message and the importance of holding this rally. Organizers refused to speak however, citing the main stream media for pushing a white agenda.
From the messages shared by speakers, they talked about the importance of Black Lives Matter not being a moment, but a movement, asking people to continue standing up for change, sharing personal experiences of encountering racism here in Rochester.
Robin Wilt, from the Brighton town board was also a speaker, talking about how intersectionality shown Saturday is important, commenting on how there were people standing side by side of different ethnicity and different faiths. She would go on to say police need to be accountable to their communities.
The Rochester Police Department did release a memo to the media Saturday saying they are monitoring the potential for a protest to occur
