There was a lot of indentured slavery in those days. Indentured slavery was basically an alternative to homelessness; it was a way of providing for your family when you ran out of the means to afford your own room and board. These slaves had to be released in the Year of Jubilee, Unless the slaves themselves chose otherwise

Read Leviticus 25:39-43

2018-11-27 03:55:54 UTC

It condones slavery

2018-11-27 03:56:07 UTC

Doesn't mean you have to own slaves

2018-11-27 03:56:16 UTC

It does not. Which verse?

2018-11-27 03:56:47 UTC

@Draco so it endorses it?

2018-11-27 03:57:29 UTC

Condones means sanction. It does not endorse slavery

2018-11-27 03:57:42 UTC

The only verse that could be read in this way -
Ephesians 6:5

2018-11-27 03:57:51 UTC

theres also this interesting verse

2018-11-27 03:57:53 UTC

Slaves, Obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ (Ephesians 6:5 NLT )

2018-11-27 03:57:56 UTC

Which only endorses authority

2018-11-27 03:58:13 UTC

but no, i.e i dont think the bible endorses slavery

2018-11-27 03:58:14 UTC

If you are a slave, you must obey, is different than keeping slaves is ok

2018-11-27 03:58:41 UTC

It is like one should obey laws does not mean that laws are just

2018-11-27 03:58:54 UTC

Or they should not be changed in due time

2018-11-27 04:56:05 UTC

Paul wished Philemon would release Onesimus from bondage and embrace him as a brother in Christ

2018-11-27 05:23:04 UTC

You should get BibleBot in here. You just say a verse and it spits it out

2018-11-27 05:29:39 UTC

Yep, and bots for other religions too. Daddy Anon is slacking in his job. Very bad.

2018-11-27 06:02:14 UTC

@Draco I'll add biblebot if you remind me tommorow

2018-11-27 06:03:46 UTC

Ok, sarge

2018-11-27 08:03:22 UTC

Should religion rolls be a thing?

2018-11-27 09:34:09 UTC

Can someone explain to me the major and nuanced differences between catholic and orthodox? besides the major obvious differences but rather the major differences people are not readily educated about.

Been thinking of potentially becoming orhtodox the past few years, dont know if I should go down that path because i simply cant seem to fully grasp the differences

2018-11-27 11:14:57 UTC

islam superior

2018-11-27 11:18:04 UTC

@Doctor Anon you said my religion condones violence

2018-11-27 11:18:07 UTC

LOL

2018-11-27 15:24:00 UTC

@Muhammad Al-Tajir We have a common enemy, let's fight side by side

2018-11-27 15:25:24 UTC

^^

2018-11-27 16:19:52 UTC

@Muhammad Al-Tajir They have battled us for too long, it's time to claim the right to self defense.

2018-11-27 16:20:43 UTC

Now you're contradicting yourself.

2018-11-27 16:26:55 UTC

@Doctor Anon Bible Bot, Sargeant

2018-11-27 16:30:43 UTC

@Vilhelmsson tell me something I said that isn't

2018-11-27 16:33:48 UTC

@Doctor Anon that verse is not about arming the disciples for combat

2018-11-27 16:33:53 UTC

They didn't use the swords

2018-11-27 16:34:02 UTC

It's for self defense

2018-11-27 16:34:06 UTC

It's not

2018-11-27 16:34:16 UTC

It is

2018-11-27 16:35:22 UTC

It's literally Jesus telling his disciples to get swords after Passover at the last supper

2018-11-27 16:35:31 UTC

He rebukes them for thinking about combat

2018-11-27 16:35:59 UTC

He tells them not to fight back for one instance
